Getting up into the mountains of Umbria Getting close to Pettino after our morning drive Ready for truffle hunting Fresh walnuts Starting point for the hunt Making feline friends All roads are named via di Pettino here More cats The pointer found a cat, who isn't all that delighted The tiny town of Pettino in the distance Whispy seeds Truffle dogs reporting for duty Come out, truffles! About to release the hounds But first a little truffle background And they're off Walking along Umbrian rolling hills Taking a short break Success! Private property Cloudless skies On the run Meadows and woods Continuing the stroll Helping with the digging Walking through the wild thyme Bright red Trading fungus for biscuit Eager for the next reward Thistle If only it were saffron Out in the hills Time to head back Blackberry discovered and plucked Sniff sniff sniff Here come the sheep Keeping wolves at bay Cheese and prosecco Sipping in the sun These dogs like cheese The herd moves on Browsing Grazing to and fro Fresh eggs with truffle Yum! Back the lodge, more cats and a very plump pig Acorn about to be scarfed Pasta making Pasta eating Fresh egg pasta with truffle sauce And then a lovely sausage and potatoes A few clouds creep in Trimmer Heading back down the slopes Happy camper Sunset in Montepulciano Ready to wander through town Here comes the flock Bell tower City walls City gate Gattavecchi Winery on the south end of town Another bell tower A light dinner... Torre di Pulcinella Making more friends
